April 15 – May 30
Little Manitou Art Gallery, Manitou Beach
Reception and Artist’s Talk
May 21, 1 – 3 p.m.
Della Hunter who paints under the name (Joye) is a multimedia artist who once dropped out of art school to travel Europe and visit art galleries. Since her youthful high-spirits, she has crafted a life and explored many ways to make art, primarily in oil. She also works in acrylic, pencil crayon, graphite and pastel. While each medium offers challenges and unique solutions, oil paint and pencil crayon are true loves. Her work is influenced by the colour practices of the impressionists and the discoveries of a host of classical and modern artists. She is attracted to the play of light on surfaces and the harmony of shape, colour and edge. While her subject matter is eclectic, she values setting and clarity to bring diamonds out of the rough.
“To say I have a style is to imagine I can control the space between my mind and the canvas. I only approximate it. The more I learn, the wider the gap becomes. Each day my work is at a different level. Although many would call my work realistic, it is far from it. Perhaps reality beguiled more accurate as at the level of ‘brush on canvas’ it is total abstraction.”
