500 new works of art marks Art Now’s return to in-person
(Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) - Art Now, Saskatchewan’s premier fine art fair, is back this year in-person in Saskatoon at Prairieland Park September 23-25. For the last two years, the fair has successfully operated entirely online, and this year it returns in person with a hybrid in-person/online show.
This 7th edition of the fair will continue to bring premier Saskatchewan commercial galleries together to sell art in Saskatoon, and highlight the galleries globally online.
“We’re excited to be able to return to an in-person event for Art Now 2022 while maintaining a strong online presence,” says Kristin Wagman, Executive Director of SaskGalleries. “Art buyers will finally be able to engage with original art, artists, and the gallerists in person or choose the online option.”
Art Now continues to be the largest fine art fair of modern and contemporary art on the Canadian prairies featuring Saskatchewan commercial galleries and more than 500 works of art available for purchase. The show features an opening night reception on Thursday September 22 at 6:30pm and the show continues Sept 23-25 with panels, artist talks, family programming, and more.
In addition to the art fair, on display will be the #HOPEANDHEALINGCANADA art installation by Métis artist Tracey-Mae Chambers. The #hopeandhealingcanada project consists of a series of site-specific art installations across Canada, including one at Art Now. Each is made using crochet, knit, and woven red yarns. This ongoing body of work is used to illustrate connections between Indigenous, Inuit, and Métis peoples with Canadians, while also addressing the decolonization of public spaces. Tracey-Mae Chambers is a Métis artist and a member of the Métis Nation of Ontario. She is traveling across Canada and the United States creating site specific art installations at residential school historical sites, cultural centres, museums, art galleries and other public spaces. Art Now is honoured to host this important installation at this year’s event.
