ROBERT CHRISTIE - THE RED STUDIO

Art Placement is pleased to present ROBERT CHRISTIE - THE RED STUDIO, a survey exhibition of recent works by the senior Saskatchewan artist, organized by Art Gallery of Swift Current and first presented there from January 9 to February 27, 2021.
Curated by Art Gallery of Swift Current Director, Kim Houghtaling, the exhibition surveys the years 2008 to 2020 by Saskatoon painter Robert Christie, a period of work encompassing a new approach in his creative process. About Christie's recent works Houghtaling writes:
"Engaging the viewer in a compelling, purely visual experience is the primary outcome of a painting by Robert Christie. Using a creative process of exploration and development, each work goes through an ambitious negotiation of visual elements including all the dimensions of colour, texture, edge, proportion, and real and implied space. There is a building up and taking away of parts. A merging of two and three dimensions. A harmony of careful design and spontaneous discovery. Christie does not make a presupposed picturesque composition within a frame. The resulting object produced through his creative process is a discovered composition. More unique, fresher and surprising than a predetermined arrangement. For the viewer the artworks are playful, dynamic and beautiful."
Art Placement's presentation of The Red Studio includes a broad selection of key pieces from the exhibition in Swift Current, supplemented by the inclusion of a few brand new paintings, fresh from the artist's studio.
Artist Meet & Greet
Saturday, March 27th
Robert Christie will be in the gallery for an artist meet-and-greet to open the exhibition on Saturday, March 27th from 1PM to 4PM. To safely control the number of people in the space, visits to the gallery on Saturday afternoon will be by appointment only. Please call 306-664-3385 ext. 2 during regular hours or email gallery@artplacement.com to book your appointment to tour the exhibition and meet with the artist. The gallery is open during our normal hours of operation and no appointment is necessary to view the exhibition at any other time (please note: we will be closed on Friday, April 2nd and Saturday, April 3rd).
