As the 5th edition of Art Now ends, make way for the 6th
The evening of Sunday, September 27 brought an end to the 5th annual Art Now Fine Art Fair, our first iteration of the fair held primarily online. This year we displayed over 500 pieces from 17 Saskatchewan galleries and welcomed over 30,000 unique visitors from across Canada at artnow.ca.
The fair began with the opening night reception, which was replete with chatter as attendees connected with gallerists for one-on-one conversations. The energy continued through the week as a variety of on location events drew (socially-distanced) crowds: spectators were captivated by artist demonstrations at Collector’s Choice and Hansen Ross House, artists were on-site at several galleries to discuss their work, and participating galleries invited guests to view their collections in person.
With the melodies of SaskMusic’s curated playlist as their soundtrack, guests were able to browse artwork online and purchase their favourite pieces. Local and remote guests alike were able to take full advantage of the fair’s virtual programming in sessions like "Change Your View – Original Art in Your Home," "A New Way to Buy Art," and "Art in Isolation". These Zoom-hosted panels facilitated robust conversations on the role of art in a global pandemic and left attendees with refined skills and refreshed perspectives.
This year’s Art Now found inspiration amid isolation, and we thank all of the attendees, galleries, volunteers, and organizers for making the event possible. SaskGalleries is also grateful to Creative Saskatchewan, and all of our sponsors, for making Art Now accessible to the public.
Be sure to mark your calendars for the 6th edition of Art Now, which will be held from September 23-26, 2021 in Prairieland Park, Saskatoon. We hope to see you there. Visit www.artnow.ca for more details.
