We asked and they answered. Traditions Hand Craft Gallery.
Get to know your local gallery. We talked with the crew at the Traditions Hand Craft Gallery in Regina. This gallery has been in operation for 25 years and carries only fine craft and artwork created by Saskatchewan artists.
We asked co-owner and gallerist Kathleen Coleclough to tell us more.
SG: Why did you purchase your gallery?
KC: Our friends asked us if we wanted to buy a gallery and we said “Sure!” … because sometimes we just don’t think things through.
SG: What is the most unusual item in your backroom?
KC: The most unusual item in the backroom is an upright piano. Our building used to be a used bookstore with a small recording studio in the basement and when the stairs were added, the piano couldn’t be moved out.
SG : What did you do before you were a gallerist?
KC: We still have our other business of building artifacts for museums, historic sites, and educational programs. We also continue to work in the TV and film industry.
SG: Why did you name your gallery Traditions?
KC: The gallery name “Traditions Hand Craft Gallery” has been that since it was opened in 1995, so it seemed fitting to keep the “tradition” going.
SG: Why should someone come to your gallery?
KC: 2020 is the 25th anniversary of Traditions, and we continue to celebrate the many talents in our province – we carry exclusively 100 per cent Saskatchewan fine craft and artwork.
