We asked and they answered. And Art Gallery.

Get to know your local gallery, And Art Gallery, in Davidson. Opened in 2017, the gallery is located in building built in 1914 that operated as a bank until Gail Prpick and her husband bought and renovated it.

We asked owner and gallerist Gail Prpick to tell us more.

SG: Why did you open your gallery?

GP: Twenty three years ago my husband and I bought the bank, literally. The building was built in 1914 and had been a bank until we purchased it. After a hard year of renovations, we moved in.  I was always interested in art having grown up in a very creative home in southern Saskatchewan. As a child, a typical Saturday in our kitchen consisted of someone getting a perm, someone cutting out a sewing pattern, someone making cookies and someone dissecting a salamander, all at the same time.

After being a professional artist for 15 years and living in a beautiful old building conveniently located between Saskatoon, Regina and Moose Jaw, it was a no-brainer. Open a gallery.

SG: What is the most unusual item in your gallery?

GP: The gallery’s most unique item would be the over one-tonne vault door. Keep your fingers and toes away!

SG: What did you do before you were a gallerist?

GP:  I originally had a bookkeeping and tax preparation business where the gallery is today. I sold that business five years ago.

SG: Why did you name your gallery And Art Gallery?

GP: The name And Art Gallery is from my different directions in life; farmer, bookkeeper... oh yeah... And Art.

SG: Why should someone come to your gallery?

GP: Someone should visit And Art Gallery to see the variety of art; we have many different media and styles.  Also, to snoop through a 1914 renovated bank, which is a work in progress, and to take a break when driving the Number 11.
