Get to know your local gallery.
Yvette Moore Gallery, located in Moose Jaw, celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2019. The gallery showcases the exclusive collection of award-winning Canadian Prairie Artist, Yvette Moore, along with over 30 Saskatchewan and Western Canadian fine artisans. Housed in the breathtaking historic 1910 Land Titles Building, Yvette Moore Gallery features a premiere retail and gallery offering of finely created works of varying mediums, as well as an in-house custom picture framing specialist to bring art to a creative new level of display.
We asked owner, gallerist, and artist Yvette Moore to tell us more.
SG: Why did you open your gallery?
YM: I had outgrown my previous business space at the same time as this remarkable historic gem became available in Downtown Moose Jaw. Always having dreamt of restoring an architectural gem like the 1910 Land Titles Building, it was an opportunity to combine my passions for art and architecture. As a professional artist for decades, it was imperative to me to offer a space to showcase my fellow local artisans and give them the exposure I had been given in the past in Saskatchewan.
SG: What is your most surprising piece in your gallery vault?
YM: My very first painting can be found in the Gallery vault that I completed at the age of 14.
SG: What did you do before you were a gallerist?
YM: Having studied Architectural Engineering Technology at STI (presently Saskatchewan Polytechnic), I worked at an architectural firm in Regina in 1988.
SG: Why did you choose your gallery name?
YM: At the point of the Gallery opening, I had already developed a brand and a recognition for my art and my style, and the name seemed simple and straightforward.
SG: Why should someone come to your gallery?
YM: Yvette Moore Gallery features more than my art collection that has amassed over 40 years, but the wonderful and unique works of over 30 Western Canadian artisans. If art is not necessarily the draw, the beautiful architecture and remarkable history of the 110-year-old building is definitely a must see.
