We asked and they answered. Assiniboia Gallery.

Get to know your local gallery – starting with the Assiniboia Gallery in Regina. This gallery has been in operation for more than 42 years and represents 38 artists. At any given time, Assiniboia has more than 400 original works of art in inventory.

We asked Co-owner and Gallerist Jeremy Weimer to tell us more.

SG: Why did you purchase your gallery?

JW: In 1998, my then fiancé (now wife of 20 years), Mary, was working for the previous owners and had the opportunity to buy the business. We were planning on getting married and loved the idea of working together. We felt that buying the Assiniboia gallery was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

SG : What did you do before you were a gallerist?

JW: Mary and I both worked at the family YMCA of Regina as lifeguards and swimming instructors. It’s actually how we met. We first learned about customer service in those jobs.

SG: Why did you name your gallery Assiniboia Gallery?

JW: The Kurtz family started the gallery in 1977 and chose the name “Assiniboia“ because it was a strong word that is connected to Saskatchewan and its history.

SG: Why should someone come to your gallery?

JW: The best part of this business is connecting beautiful works of art to our customers and helping them make their homes and offices more personalized with the addition of art that they love. We strive to create a relaxing and unpretentious environment where anyone can come enjoy art. The best part is you don’t have to “know” anything. The more you see, the more your personal taste starts to come through.
